Celebrating Gunnar & Abigail ~ July 13, 2014
The countdown to their wedding day is in full-swing ...
September 20 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
They've had a long-distance courtship for 5 years ... and a 7 month engagement.
We think they are a match made in heaven.
When Gunnar was unable to go to OK & see her this time around {work schedule},
at the last minute, it worked for her to come here.
{They hadn't seen each other in 4 months ... & won't see each other again until a few days
before they say 'I DO'}
We
were so happy at the opportunity for Gunnar to get to take part in some
of the pre-wedding activities that he thought he'd be missing out on.
And, it gave all the Indiana family & friends a chance to celebrate their engagement & upcoming wedding.
So, we kicked it into high gear & planned a wedding shower as fast as we could!
Gunnar liked the idea of incorporating it in with our usual Sunday fellowship lunch at FLA,
so that exactly what we did.
{Her 10 days here were filled to the brim with many activities, so this worked best for the schedule too.}
Abigail's favorite color is yellow, she likes bright & cheery, & she loves strawberries ...
so these are the things that inspired the color scheme & decor.
Here are a few pics as things were getting set up.
A sweet friend loaned her gorgeous stacked server & even wrapped all the silverware.
I loved how the banners turned out.
Not ganna lie, I had tons of fun in Joann's picking out all this fabric!
I've always wanted to do the lemon slices in a vase ... I love this look.
Next time, I'll know how to make them look even better.
Now's the time to FEAST your eyes!
I'm telling you, our ladies at FLA know how to pull out all the stops when it comes to food!
{We have a pitch-in fellowship meal every Sunday at church.}
I wanted a brunch theme & sent a few suggestions on what to pitch-in ... & the ladies went over-the-top!
Everything was beautiful & delicious!
Abigail loves vintage things, so I asked the ladies if they'd like to, they could incorporate old dishes
or vintage servers to plate their food.
Mrs. Billie used a rose glass dish that belonged to her husband's mother ... very old, very beautiful.
Beth brought silver servers that belonged to her husband's grandmother & I'm sure others used vintage
dishes that I didn't even hear about ... all added such special touches to the buffet.
I put together this fun donut tree that sort of mimics a tiered 'wedding' cake.
My sister, Lisa, set up a pineapple palm tree with strawberries & watermelon.
I can't even begin to express my thanks to these ladies,
for such sweet hospitality on this very special day.
Now for the gifts ... Gunnar & Abigail were showered with so many wonderful things
to help them start their home!
They got some BIG things & they were so grateful ... 2 sets of dishes, a vacuum sweeper,
a gorgeous quilt, a soft blanket, sheets, towels ...
& Garrett, Gunnar's twin brother, got him a coffeemaker, which he loved ;)
He & Carissa got the one the makes a pot on one side & a single serve on the other.
Garrett said that's just the kind Gunnar needed.
Brothers know these things ;)
They got several pieces of adorable decor, a picnic basket full of kitchen items ...
an antique egg basket filled with goodies, including handmade crocheted dishcloths ...
a vintage blue travel bag filled with towels, a bathroom rug & a blue hand mixer...
a set of stainless steel cookware, 2 skillets, a blender, silverware,
& a couple boxes of baking dishes of various types & sizes ...
They were also given gift cards & other gifts that I didn't get pictures of.
{I so wish I had gotten pics of every single thing, all day long!}
A HUGE thank you, on behalf of Gunnar & Abigail!
They talked all day on Sunday about all the wonderful
gifts that they were blessed with.
Here are a few pics of the tables.
I continued with the same fabric, using a square on each table.
Each one got trimmed out with fun edging, like pom poms & ric rac.
I use old things in my decor throughout our home & have quite a collection,
so I just shopped my house, bringing various items to group together for the tables.
I brought pieces of ironstone from my china cabinet, along with jars, cloches, & hobnail vases.
I kept it simple but fun, with a touch of nostalgia that both Gunnar & Abigail love.
Love the fresh look that lemons added.
Found this little 'love' chalkboard at Goodwill for $1.99 ... surprised to find out it is currently at
Hobby Lobby for $14.99!
{What a steal!}
I added it to the already beautiful wreath that sits on the entry table to 'sweeten' it up for the shower.
And this sign pretty much sums up the wonderful day.
Love IS sweet
& it especially was for Gunnar & Abigail at their wedding shower.
They felt lots of love all day long ...
& throughout this whole week,
they have both talked about what a special day it was.
There's a huge stack of gifts in our garage just waiting to find their place
in Gunnar & Abigail's new home come September.
This was a day that they will never forget ... memories to treasure for a lifetime.
Thank you to every person who had a part in their day.
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not
arrogant or rude.
It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable
or resentful;
it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the
truth.
Love bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things,
endures all things.
Love never fails.

ReplyDeleteThank you, Tanya. Still can't hardly believe we are at this place in our lives. About the lemons, I liked those too. I wanna try again & see if I can get them to look even better. I was totally in 'hurry' mode when I did those. They lasted for several days afterward.
