The Thanksgiving House

Last we spoke, I was dealing with a Thanksgiving crisis.

Ya know, my rotten pumpkin centerpiece ... remember that little ordeal?!

Let me jog your memory.

 

A trip to Old Time Pottery saved the day.

In fact, next to a real pumpkin, I don't think I could have found anything sweeter 

than this creamy corn husk pumpkin.

Pure delight =)

Out with the old rotten, in with the new.

The pumpkin, candles with the gold dots, & the cream napkins are the only new things on the table.

Everything else, goodies from  my fall stash & the china cabinet.

It's simple & that's exactly what I was going for.

Pine cones are ridiculously wonderful & I just can't get enough of them. 

Right before my guests arrived, I made place cards & placed below the pine cones,

but I forgot to snap a pic of those.

My pumpkin-colored wall always fits in during the fall season ... & that's when I'm most grateful to have it.

Otherwise throughout the year, I'm secretly wishing it was grey.

Shhh...just between us ;)

I love my dining room, my big ol' table ... but not loving Cooper's tennis ball under it.

I missed that when I was tidying up for the picture.

My mom recently gave me this huge live plant.

I'm going to try my best to keep it thriving like she has.

And my antique decoy duck, I just love that thing, as strange as it may seem.

Seems fitting ... Thanksgiving blessings right about the silhouettes of our 3 sons.

They are our greatest blessings, indeed.

My china cabinet is usually brimming over with ironstone, 

but I'm enjoying it in a variety of places throughout the house right now.

Here are a few of my most treasured pieces.

Above my lovely builders grade cabinets are a few fall touches.

{I may bite the bullet & paint these babies in the spring.}

And for some odd reason, I don't think I've ever shown my green pantry door on the blog.

I painted this in the spring of 2013 & honestly, I am thinking I may give it a new look pretty soon too.

{It was my first time to try the Vaseline paint treatment & it was pretty neat!}

My clear wreath hook snapped in two right before my Thanksgiving guests arrived, 

so I had to use my gold one.

We had to set up an additional table for our guests, so we moved our pub table into this corner

to serve as the dessert area. 

The beautiful bouquet, given to us by a sweet friend for Pastor Appreciation, was the perfect centerpiece.

The fall picture on the wall came home with me from SC when we were there last year.

{Lots of my decor has come from SC -- sweet memories every time I look at it all.}

The little square box on the wall is an old crayon box that says 'Liberty' on the front

{James lived in Liberty when we met}.

And I'd love to have a few more old cutting boards.

{They are so expensive!}

One of my very favorite fall accessories is the 'Live Within Your Harvest' sign.

I LOVE that message ... & that way of life.

I usually fill up these containers with corn kernels, but this year I chose candy corn.

So whimsical & fun.

The clay leaf on the table was made by Garrett years ago ... the only one from the 3 boys that's survived.

And I'm even sharing this blurry pic cause I loved these pilgrims, new pieces that I got on clearance last year.

They sat with my old picnic basket on top of the armoire.

And I broke my own rule this year in regards to my Christmas tree!

I never put my tree up before Thanksgiving when we are hosting it at our house.

But this year, I just couldn't wait to put it up!

So my compromise was this:  

tree up & lights on, but only natural or woodsy colored/themed decor on the tree.

No other Christmas decor anywhere ... all fall stuff still out on display.

I even came up with a name for it:  ThanksMAS ... or ChristGIVING.

Ha ... I loved it.

So warm & woodsy!

So, house was in order & ready for Thanksgiving dinner.

As you can tell, we feasted!!

And almost that quickly, Thanksgiving is now a memory

& we'll look forward to it again next year.
