Cilantro from the Garden

Oh, sweet friends in blog land ... oh, how I wish you could SMELL this fresh cilantro!!
I'm tellin' ya, the only way to describe how great this smells is to imagine the smell
of store-bought cilantro & then times it by a hundred!
Ok, that may be a slight exaggeration, but not much.
It smells crazy good.
For a girl who's a big cilantro fan, I'm loving it.

But since you cannot smell this, we'll have to just settle for admiring it's beauty, shall we?
It's such a vibrant green ... & it smells so good it's tender leaves are so pretty.

This is the first thing picked from Gunnar's raised bed garden & I'm quite excited!
By the end of the summer, after enjoying the 'fruits' of his labor,
we'll all be thanking Gunnar for having the vision & taking the time to build this!

For tonight, this fresh cilantro is the superstar of our favorite homemade salsa.
It's going alongside tacos.
Fiesta time a la casa de Pennington!

Now, just in case you haven't tried your hand at making homemade salsa,
here's the link to our favorite recipe.
It's very easy & authentic tasting, so you've got no excuses.

Until next time,

  2. I hope you do too! It's pretty great just walking a couple steps out of your door to pick an ingredient for a recipe!

  5. Question, mine is getting flowers on it. Do I cut them off?

    1. Yes, cut them off. It's best to snip cilantro often to keep it from 'bolting' - flowering. Once it does, the flavor is much less intense.

  6. My favorite herb. It bolts all too quick here so I grow it in winter.

  7. That's awesome! I've thought of growing some indoor herbs in the cold weather here, but haven't given it a try yet. Thanks, Elaine, for stopping by.
