Reformation Day 2015

Happy Reformation Day!

And another successful Reformation Celebration Day is in the books!
(We had it on October 17 this year, 2 weeks early, because of how cold it's been the last couple years.)
The weather was nice, sunny, & in the 50s ... perfect.
We had a festive day full of fun, food & fellowship.
What more is there to life, really?! ;)
Not much in my book.

This was our 4th annual RCD & I've blogged about them all except last year.
I blame it on 'our twin sons just got married within 3 weeks of each other' fog.
I just hadn't quite recovered from all those big events & I only took a couple pictures last year.
And I certainly wasn't doing too much blogging.

Not much as changed with me & the blogoshpere.
I'm doing a horrible job of posting anything but I sure intend to do better.

If you want to read the previous RCD blogs, here they are:

Now, on to this year's old fashioned fun ...
Here is our handsome son, Gunnar, & his lovely wife, Abigail in their period attire.
Abigail sewed her beautiful renaissance dress & Gunnar's tunic.

James is getting the day started off right.
You see, since our Reformation Day Celebration was on Oct. 17, it was also Sweetest Day.

James had all the couples to give each other a 'Sweetest Day' kiss!
I tried hard but couldn't capture the kissers fast enough!

OK ... enough of the mushy stuff ;)

We enjoyed a variety of musicians throughout the day & into the evening.
Some had practiced up for the occasion & others just grabbed their instruments & joined in.
The music was the perfect addition.
Everyone loves a bit of pickin' & grinnin'.

And can I just say that our ladies knock it out of the park in the food department?!
We had more crock pots than you could shake a stick at.
Unfortunately, I forgot to take pics til after the line had started,
so I only got a fraction of the food that was on the tables.
We had a reformation feast!

My sweet mother-n-law made a big batch of chicken & dumplings.
Let's just say people were scraping the bottom of the pot in no time flat.

We had an excellent crowd & lots of visitors.
We were glad to see every person that came out.

Our day was most perfect because it was spent with extended family.
We don't get to be with them as much as we'd like, so we cherish every minute!
Love these people more than I could express.
(We are missing a few in this shot but had to grab this one while we could --
it's hard to get everyone in the same place at the same time.)

Some of the most fun of the day is seeing all the folks arriving in their costumes!
Dressing up is fun no matter how old you are.
Here are some shots of all the old fashioned finery.

We have a contest for the best dressed ... and Mrs. Abigail took the prize for the adults!

My James was 'George Whitfield'.

I, again, forgot to take a pic of my whole outfit, but I did take a selfie with my orange hat.
I think everyone should own an orange hat.

We've got a pirate, a prayer warrior, Daniel Boone, a King Arthur ...

A Queen Arthur & her burly Renaissance husband ...

We even had a Charles & Caroline Ingalls from Walnut Grove ...
a Clara Barton, a princess, & an archer ...

and take a look at these wee Scottish lads & their parents!

Cutest little guys in kilts that I ever did see!

And take a look at this dashing couple!

Beautiful gals

The contest winners:  Abigail & Lauren!

All the hard work in preparing for a big event such as this is worth it when you see
the children having such a good time together.

Pumpkin Tic-Tac-Toe

3 in a row!

Yay - We won!
Victory hug =)

Ring Toss

This balance beam is tough!

We had a really big bouncy house this year ... it even had a slide!
It was all day fun for the little & big kids alike =)

It's about to get serious right here ... time for the ladies skillet toss!

It was some serious competition!

And another yearly favorite:  build your own bow & arrow!

Let's see if this thing will shoot!

Our straw jump game is always a highlight ... but I didn't get any shots this year.
Thankfully I was able to borrow a couple.

I wish I had captured shots of every person & every single event, but these pictures will be reminders
of another great Reformation Day Celebration!

We ended the day with more music in the tent, hayrides through the cornfields,
& roasting hot dogs & making smores around the big bonfire.

And a good day was had by all.

We feel humbled & ever so thankful as we reflect on & celebrate the inheritance which has come down
to us from the great Reformers.

In the name of God, Amen.
