Our Antiques Road-Trip Date ~ Part 1!

Ok, ladies.
I'm giving you fair warning.
You are entering the super sweet zone.
Let me tell ya, my hubs is a sweetie ... a super sweetie!

You know I've been overhauling the house.
And I'm happy to say, I'm in the home stretch.
The look is coming together & I'm very ready for it to be completed {for now ...lol}.

I love to decorate our home & change things up rather frequently.
James, & even our boys, have an eye for interior detail, & enjoy nice home decor.
I've been mentioning for a year or two now how I'd like to find a couple particular pieces of furniture,
one for the living room & one for the kitchen.
Course, I'm always keeping an eye out for a few odds & ends things that are on my 'wish' lists.
Annnd, besides that, James & I love antique stores, flea markets, yard sales, etc.
We are history buffs & looking through treasures from times gone by is one of our favorite activities.

All the above combined led James to plan out a weekend get-away for the two of us ...
an antiques road trip date!
He planned & orchestrated the whole event ... & he scored, big time!
We truly had a ball!

We left on Friday evening & drove to Richmond, IN, booking our hotel stay on the way there.
{It was a surprise deal, sort of ... & as usual with us, schedules are always up in the air, so
he didn't book ahead of time just in case something came up, work-wise.}
We stayed at the new Holiday Inn ... very nice, I might add.

On Saturday morning, we started our trek.
Stop one:  not an antique store ... but at an Amish grocery store.
When we pulled into the lot & saw a horse & buggy hitched at the side of the store,
well, we knew we were at the right place.

Oh boy.
We spent more time in there than we figured ... all because it was big & well,
for lack of better words, pretty much awesomeness.
We stocked up on several things ... sampled lots of things ... bought the boys some goodies ...
and a good time was had by all.
It was the perfect way to start the day.
We were delighted to find a store of this kind not too far away from us
AND
it's in route {sort of} when we go see our family in the eastern part of the state.
Safe in saying we'll be detouring there as often as we can.

Here's a few pics from Fountain Acres.

Perfect dried pineapple slices.

 Chocolate much?!

Homemade blueberry angel food cake.
How pretty is this?!
Reminds me of the color of a robin's egg.

This here was what I wanted to buy ... but resisted!
Woohoo ... bonus points for me!
I am a fan of all-things maple ... & I was intrigued by the idea of a brown sugar cookie.
But, James & I decided before we went in that we would not bring home desserts that would be
there to tempt us for the next several days til they were gone.
Course, these may have not made it past one day ;)

More brown sugar cookies ... of the powered variety.
I'll try a brown sugar cookie one of these days ;)

No words necessary.
None.

Many jars of jellies, jams, pie fillings, pickles, & canned goods.

From scratch, made on site donuts!

Lots & lots of cheese & lunch meat, in many varieties.

James snapped this one ... and just as he did, this fella turned around. He would've never taken a pic of an Amish out of respect to their beliefs.  There were actually so many in the store, it was hard to get a pic without one.
This section of the store showcases the beautiful handmade furniture.

And finally here's our buggy as we were checking out:
We bought some really good, high quality cod liver oil & a large bottle of detoxificant...
2 bottles each {James wanted to buy my mom some too}.
Never hurts to keep your body clear & free from toxins that aren't healthy for us.
I was just starting to run out of the spices I bought when we were in Holmes County, Ohio last year,
so I was glad to stock up on these again.
I can really tell a difference in the quality.
We bought some fruit & veggies, pickles & chow-chow, corn chips {this brand is yummy},
coconut oil, coconut pudding mix, soup base, farm fresh eggs, & 6 donuts for the boys.

And since we by-passed on all the donuts, cakes, pies, & breads, we afforded ourselves
a couple guilty pleasures to share as a lunch snack on the road to our 1st antique store.
As much as we like to fine dine, we are a couple of country kids at heart.
Not much better than a slice of fresh bologna, wrapped up in a piece of habanero & jalapeno cheese.
Throw in a chocolate chip whoopie pie & we were good to go ;)

Our expensive lunch for two:  $1.44

And here's my sweet baby cakes ... the planner of this fun road trip!
Had to sneak in a snap of him too.

Come back for the 'antiques' part of the trip!

  3. Amish country? I miss all the baked goods we used to buy on weekends. We used to live in Delaware and not too far away was a farm stand with fresh Amish baked goods. Beautiful country.

  16. Hmm it looks like your site ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so
I guess I'll just sum it up what I had written and say, I'm
thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I'm still new to everything. Do you have any points for first-time blog writers? I'd
    genuinely appreciate it.
